TERM 1, 2023
This term the Year 3/4 classes (including the Year 4/5 class) will be investigating where French is spoken in the world, to help develop an understanding of why French is a prominant language in the the world and the importance of learning a second language. We are also having discussions about the vast array of cultures and languages spoken in our school community- we have such a rich mix of cultures at Paringa Park Primary School!
We will be reviewing basic language vocabulary and features from their past learning, primarily around student self, 'tout sur moi' (all about me).
This year I have arranged access for all Year 3/4 students to boukili.com, an application that gives access to illustrated French texts. Through this I am able to assign specific texts to students to read, listen to and answer simple comprehension questions. We may use this in class time, as part of our learning tasks, or students can also access it from home if they would like. I will send home further information about this in week 3 and 4 of Term 1.

Term 1, 2021
This term the Year 3/4s are reviewing family vocabulary from previous years learning, working towards developing and describing their own family trees.
They are also learning to read and write descriptive noun groups in French to describe individual family members.
We are incorporating students' Mathematical thinking by telling each other how many people are in each of their families:
"Combien de personne as-tu dans ta famille?" (How many people have you got in your family?)
"Dans ma famille il y a trois filles et quatre garcons." (In my family there are 3 girls and 4 boys.)

Term 3, 2020
This term, the Middle Years classes have been learning how to use vocabulary about their families. We have worked from a list of 10 key words, and as the students become more familiar with them, have introduced new ways to use them to describe the members of their families. Every family is different, so it has been important that the students personalise their learning by having the opportunity to use a range of vocabulary in new ways.
We have based this topic around the SAFTA poem "Ma famille" by Celiane Ferrin.
Ma Famille de Celiane Ferrin
Je suis une fille
J’aime la vanille
Je suis un garçon
J’aime le poisson
Elle est une maman
Elle aime les marrants
Il est un papa
Il aime le chocolat
Elle est une mamie
Elle aime le riz
Il est un papie
Il aime la vache qui rit
et mon copain
il aime rien!

Middle Years
Term 1 & 2, 2018
In Term 1 the students have begun by reviewing what they can say and understand in French, using our hands to gesture as a multi-modal learning tool.
The Middle Years classes will be learning French through a play-version of a story they are familiar with.
"Les trois petits cochons" is an engaging AIM French learning unit, incorporating, spoken, gestured, written and performed tasks. The students will learn set 'paired-down-language' (PDL) within the unit activities, engaging with peers and developing their confidence with spoken French.

It is our goal in the Middle Years classes to only use French language with our gestures in the lessons by Term 2.
Wish us luck- we are challenging ourselves to be the best we can be in French!

textes descriptifs d'animaux
Term 2:
This term, in addition to our work on Les Trois Petits Cochons, we are learning to describe animals using a range of expert words. We started by reading animal reports and noticing expert descriptive words. Then we made posters of animals of our own describing them with words we have learned so far e.g. mammifere (mammal), marche (walk), herbivore/carnivore, ovipare (lays eggs). Next each student will create their own animal description, written in the first person, e.g. je suis (I am), j'ai (I have), je mange (I eat), j'habite (I live).
